Your journey begins at the Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza Etna Sud, at our Info Point Souvenir Shop. Here you’ll receive a briefing and final recommendations from our expert guides, before boarding the cable car and 4×4 bus to reach 2900 meters altitude. And that’s where the real trek starts: two hours of intense, awe-inspiring hiking across recent lava flows and ancient lunar landscapes shaped by fire.

You’ll walk along the edge of the Central Crater, just steps away from dizzying drops into Bocca Nuova, gaze into the North-East Crater, and admire the iconic South-East Crater, still the stage for Etna’s most spectacular eruptions. Fumaroles, warm stones, and the ever-changing colours of the terrain — red, yellow, orange — tell the living story of the volcano and of Sicily itself.

• Excursions may be subject to changes or interrupted due to weather or volcanological reasons. In the event of sudden ordinances in the months of September 2026, the maximum altitude that can be reached is 2500 m or 3000 m, depending on the prefecture’s ordinances or at the discretion of the guide and the organization.
