The snow covers small crevasses, making the walk unstable and testing the hikers’ balance.
Last Saturday, it is estimated that at least 2,000 people undertook the 5-kilometer journey each way along the famous Pista Altomontana. Among them, some were unprepared for the dangers of the terrain: slips, sprains, and a few fractures required the intervention of the Alpine Rescue Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, always present to ensure visitors’ safety.

Due to the cooling of the lava flow, our guided excursions on the lava front with Alpine Guides have been temporarily suspended.
However, those who wish to reach the area can still do so by following the already established trails, always with caution. The beauty of this side of Etna is extraordinary in every season: the contrast between the white snow and black lava, the panoramic views stretching all the way to the sea, and the crisp high-altitude air create a truly unique experience.

For those who choose to venture up, our advice is clear: caution, proper equipment, and respect for the mountain. Etna is both fascinating and wild, and those who know how to listen to it will always find a reason to return.

Other Active Excursions

While our lava front excursions are temporarily on hold, all our other tours remain available.
For this time of year, we highly recommend:

Summit Craters Trekking at 3,300 meters, for an unforgettable experience at the highest accessible point of the volcano.

For those who prefer a less demanding hike, an excursion to the craters at 2,920 meters is a great alternative.

All our prices include round-trip tickets for the Etna Cable Car.

The silence of Etna is broken only by the crackling of solidified lava and the muffled footsteps on fresh snow.
